How in the hell do you pick from that list. Everyone of these is just off the wall great! But here are my reviews.
1. The Spill the Wine version is the best for balls to the wall all out jamming. Except they are not stallions they are Gallions so that did not get my vote. 2. I love this version, Warren is on fire in his solos, but they get negative points for no sax or violin. Just imagine what that version could have sounded like. 3. An Allan Woody era Cortez is great but Warren is not as on as some versions of this song. With that in mind you have to love Warren being represented twice in this contest. That gets bonus points 4. That brings us to Grace's version. This gets negative points for length and missing verses but bonus points for Joe "Crazy Eyes" Santriani and with out a doubt the trumpet of Willie. That added a whole new dimension to this song and shows proves to me that you can take a song like Cortez the Killer and make it fresh. Grace wasn't bad either:) 5. I will be honest I didn't listen to this one 6. Once again WSP does a great version but nothing to distinguish this from the others here. So after all of that I did vote for Grace. The ranking is 4, 2, 1, 3, 6, 5 |
