Camera is a Canon EOS 50D.
For this show i used the following lenses: 70-200mm f/2.8, 85mm f/1.8 and a 50mm f/1.4. I brought my Ultra Wide 20mm f/2.8 but it never left the bag. The last two of Grace were with the 70-200.

i really like it, i moved up from the 30D. However i really wished I had gone to the 5D and gotten the full sensor but that would have been twice the cost.

It's faster and obviously with 15M more megapixels. It's supposed to be better with noise at the higher ISO levels but the one time i took it to 3600 it came back with a ton of noise. I even dropped it to 2000 and wasn't happy. That was at a Cornmeal show in Fort Collins. The lighting at that show was horrific. The next night i kept it at 1600 or below and got some beautiful shots of Cornmeal. Probably my best shots ever. For this GPN show i had it arouond 1000, i bumped it up to 1250 once but brought it back down. It is much better then my 30D at those levels.

What i thought was really nice is i can now shoot in both RAW and JPG. I did this for awhile but started filling up cards so fast that i bailed on that feature. What i might do is shoot the marquee in both, just so i can see what is on a disk when looking at it since RAW is only visible in my software. It also allows you to shoot in RAW at either 15 or 8M, which i don't believe my 30D had. I'm thinking I might have to do the lower level at festivals since i filled up a 4G card for the Grace show, keep in mind there was an opener along with Blues and Lasers.

There is also a feature on the Mode Dial, that allows you to create two preprogrammed settings. I'm still learning it, as i've only shot with it about 6 times (3 concerts, a wedding, and two scenic runs).

I have another concert on the 12th, which last time i shot at this venue there was very low lightning with heavy reds (horrible conditions), so it will be interesting to see how it handles this setting.

Bottom line: I like it. If you don't want to fork over the jack for a full sensor then this is the way to go. It really blows away my 30D.

this is from April 4th, at the Fox Theater in Boulder Colorado. I was very happy with this shoot. As you will probably notice i'm a big Allie Fan!!
